The Lake Pointe Imaging Center (LPIC) in Wylie furthers the Lake Pointe Health Network vision of bringing advanced imaging technology and customer service to our local community. LPIC Wylie is a fully digital imaging center offering:
PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System)
LPIC Wylie has been designed from the ground up for your convenience and comfort.
We understand that some people have reservations about having an MRI, but it can be a pleasant experience. With your comfort in mind, the unit provides more room in the magnet and less noise during the exam, so it is easier to remain motionless during your procedure. The wide opening can accommodate larger patients with a greater sense of openness. The quiet nature of the unit may also reduce your exam apprehension. Your comfort, combined with some of the latest MRI exam techniques, may assure that your physician is provided with high-quality images they can utilize to evaluate and diagnose your physical condition.
The care and diagnosis of patients has significantly improved through the use of computed tomography (CT). A CT exam is a fairly quick and painless procedure. The CT scanner acquires images in just a matter of seconds while you are lying comfortably on the patient table. Using a series of x-rays, the CT scanner creates cross-sectional images, or ‘slices’, which are reconstructed by a computer to produce 3-D images. The result of these images is a picture with greater detail than a traditional x-ray, which can mean a more accurate interpretation and diagnosis from your physician.
LPIC offers digital mammography which provides several benefits over standard mammography. With digital mammography, the radiologist reviews electronic images of the breast using special high-resolution monitors. The physician can adjust the brightness, change the contrast, and zoom in for close-ups of specific areas of interest. The ability to manipulate images is one of the main benefits of digital mammography.
To supplement this technology, LPIC has incorporated digital Computer-Aided Detection (CAD). CAD highlights characteristics commonly associated with breast cancer and is designed to flag abnormalities to help the radiologist detect early breast cancer. CAD is, in essence, a second set of eyes to support the radiologist.
Another convenience of digital mammography over film-based systems is that it can greatly reduce the need for retakes due to over and under exposure. This potentially saves additional time and reduces your exposure to x-rays.
Bone density tests measure bone mineral content to determine the strength of your bones and test for osteoporosis. The scan is a simple, painless procedure that takes less than 10 minutes to perform. Annual bone density tests are recommended for post-menopausal women over the age of 50 and can be easily scheduled with your mammogram.
PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System)
Being a fully digital imaging center, LPIC at Wylie offers PACS, Picture Archiving Communication System. What this means is that within minutes of your exam at LPIC, your physician may access the PACS System from any computer for the purpose of viewing your exam images. The system is password secured and fully HIPAA compliant, allowing for patient and physician peace of mind. Once your images have been reviewed and interpreted by our radiologists, your physician will also have access through PACS to view a dictated report of your exam. PACS provides the opportunity for quick access to your images and interpretation of your exam, possibly providing your physician to more quickly diagnosis and provide treatment when necessary. It can also provide faster retrieval, when needed, of past studies that were performed at other Lake Pointe facilities since we offer fully digital imaging and PACS at all imaging locations within our network.
