Lake Pointe Medical Center continually strives to offer classes and support groups to the community to promote positive health and understanding. Currently, we offer the following:
The Community Seminar Series is designed to keep our community educated about current medical topics. Practicing physicians from our exceptional medical staff of over 400 physicians provide interactive presentations on a wide variety of health care topics. Community Classes
Childbirth Classes - We understand the importance of preparing for delivery during this most exciting time in your life. To assist those first-time parents, we offer comprehensive childbirth classes monthly, covering such topics as stages of labor and delivery; epidurals; post partum care; breathing, relaxation and massage techniques; pain control strategies; interventions in labor; C sections; and many more. Each class concludes with a tour of the OB Unit. (There is a nominal fee per couple to attend) Call 972-412-3296 for more information or to make your reservation.
Baby Bootie Camp (Infant Care) and Breastfeeding Classes - These two classes are offered in addition to the Childbirth Classes and are provided free of charge to those delivering at Lake Pointe Medical Center. Call 972-412-3296 for more information or to make your reservation.
Baby Bootie Camp covers characteristics of newborns; hospital procedures, tests and medications; breast and bottle feeding; tips for the first few weeks at home; skills lab that covers diapering, dressing, swaddling, bulb syringe and taking temperature; CPR is included but is NOT for certification, only informational at this time.
Breastfeeding Class covers benefits for mom and baby; getting off to a good start in the hospital; tips for the first few weeks at home; how to get help if problems arise; and pumping and weaning.
Community Support Groups
Breastfeeding Support Group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6PM to 8PM in the Lake Pointe Inservice Room at Lake Pointe Medical Center, 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett. For more information, please contact Sue Knight at 972-412-3296.
Breast Cancer Support Group - The Lake Pointe Breast Center Support Group is for all breast cancer survivors, whether newly diagnosed or a long-term survivor. We provide information, resources, emotional support, healthy tips, guest speakers, and a time for survivors to share concerns, ask questions, and learn from each other. Support group sessions are facilitated by physicians, healthcare providers and volunteers from the Lake Pointe Health Network. Breast Cancer Support Group Flyer
Look Good...Feel Better is a free program that helps women look their best during cancer treatment. Experienced cosmetologists teach cancer patients beauty tips to help minimize the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Good makeup application and a wig or turban can bring back your former appearance or create an entirely new one. It is a makeover for the spirit. And that is a beautiful thing. Look Good...Feel Better
CPAP Support Group meets quarterly from 4:30PM to 6:00PM in the Lake Pointe Cafe at Lake Pointe Medical Center - 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett. Diabetes Support Group Flyer
Living Well with Cancer is a support program for cancer survivors, their family and friends. The group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00PM in the Inservice Room across from the Lake Pointe Cafe at Lake Pointe Medical Center*. Come learn about nutrition, exercise, stress management, and symptom management as it relates to cancer - provided by the physicians and healthcare professionals at Lake Pointe Medical Center. Weight Loss Surgery Informational Seminars are designed to provide information about having weight-loss surgery at Lake Pointe Medical Center and answer your questions about the procedure. These seminars are lead by our Bariatric Coordinator and our Bariatric Surgeons. The seminars take place in Rowlett, Garland and Rockwall. American Heart Association CPR classes are held twice a year, once in February and once in October, at Lake Pointe Medical Center and are open to the community ($25 fee). Please call the Education Department at 972.412.3380 X2985 for more information .
