The LifeMed Smart cards will be used within the Lake Pointe Medical Center initially, and then extended to some local physician offices who are affiliated with Lake Pointe, as well as local ambulance services who want to access the emergency information stored on the Smart card. It is expected that 10,000 cards will be issued during the first year of the program at Lake Pointe.
David Batchelor, CEO for SMART commented, “For nearly 17 years, SMART has provided healthcare organizations with consumer relationship membership programs that strengthen patient loyalty by providing rewards and benefits, accessible by a branded membership card. So we thought that if a patient was going to carry a membership card, why not have that card carry medical information too? After a great deal of research, SMART recognized Smart card technology as a natural extension of our business model and its value to the hospital and patient. By adding medical data to secure Smart cards, we reduce the admissions time and increase patient admittance accuracy. With the patient’s medical data carried in their wallet, it allows emergency responders to read the medical data on the card and gather valuable life-saving medical information, even if the patient is unconscious. We expect the patients will embrace using Smart cards to manage their data, not only at the hospital, but as a method of connecting and controlling their personal electronic patient health records.”
Eric Evans, Chief Operating Officer of Lake Pointe was equally enthusiastic. “"Right now, there is a strong movement to empower patients and provide them with access to their medical information -- their medical information. That is the essence of consumer-driven healthcare. The Internet-age market has responded with a host of electronic health record portals for patients to build and control their medical records. However, the problem with the model has been the inability for the providers to access that information during the delivery of services. Patients have spent time collecting records, but have no efficient means to distribute that information.”
What the LifeMed platform provides is a bridge by which the patient-developed information can be easily utilized by the physicians and hospitals. With LifeMed, hospitals are able to utilize their existing data networks and allow patient information to flow into their systems, thereby creating a more complete and more accurate medical picture of that patient.

ROWLETT, TX – Lake Pointe Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Nuclear Medicine as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice.
ROWLETT, TX (October 1, 2008) – Lake Pointe Medical Center was ranked as the 28th Best Value Hospital in the United States as part of the Hospital Value Index™ 100 Best Value Hospital list. Lake Pointe was the only facility in Texas to make the Top 100 list. Lake Pointe Medical Center was also listed as a Best Kept Secret Hospital – recognizing hospitals that offer high value but are not as well known as other hospitals in their market.

“This recent recognition is testament to the great care provided at Lake Pointe,” said Carolyn Jackson, CEO of Lake Pointe Medical Center. “The dedication of our employees and medical staff help to ensure that we consistently deliver high-quality healthcare that is efficient and cost effective.”

The Data Advantage Hospital Value Index™ is a comprehensive index measuring the relative value of care that hospitals provide to patients. The Hospital Value Index™ analyzed more than 1,500 general acute-care hospitals in America’s 100 largest cities, serving approximately 180 million consumers, to offer the most comprehensive picture of a hospital’s value to date by measuring its success in four key areas:

• Quality of its care, including core processes and patient safety;

• Efficiency of its care and affordability, including the prices it charges;

• Experience encountered by its patients as measured by patient satisfaction; and

• Comprehensive reputation of a hospital as measured by local public perception.

Data Advantage uses existing data to calculate its index. Much of it comes from Medicare, which tracks hospital operations beyond just Medicare patients.

• Quality accounts for 45% of a hospital’s overall score. Data Advantage looks at the federal government’s public reporting, key patient-safety measures, and whether the hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission or included in the LeapFrog survey.

• Affordability and efficiency count for another 45%. Data Advantage measures affordability by looking at the hospital’s list prices for 103 different outpatient services, ranging from chest X-rays to diagnostic colonoscopies. Gauging efficiency is done by looking at the cost side of the equation — how much the hospital actually spent (using data reported to Medicare) to treat patients with certain diagnoses, adjusted for severity.

• Patient satisfaction makes up the final 10%. Data Advantage uses survey data from discharged patients, which were recently made public through Medicare. It concentrates on two questions: rating the hospital from 0 to 10, and whether the patient would recommend the facility to family and friends.

Lake Pointe’s performance on the first three metrics – quality, affordability and efficiency, and patient satisfaction – resulted in their #28 ranking on the Hospital Value IndexTM 100 Best Value Hospital list, the only hospital in Texas to make the Top 100 list. The fourth metric – hospital reputation in the community – was measured by local public perception and resulted in Lake Pointe being named a Best Kept Secret Hospital.

More information on the results can be found at www.HospitalValueIndex.com.

ABOUT LAKE POINTE MEDICAL CENTER

Lake Pointe Medical Center, a part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, is a 112-bed acute care hospital located at 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett.
Lake Pointe Graduates Pastoral Care Chaplains

Rowlett – May 12, 2008 - Lake Pointe Medical Center recently graduated its first class of pastoral care chaplains. These chaplains were part of the internationally recognized Community of Hope lay pastoral care training program which the hospital became part of in January of this year.

The chaplains went through a multi-level application and interview process before being selected. Because LPMC is not a faith based hospital, it was important to ensure those interested in becoming a lay pastoral care chaplain understood they would be caring for patients, families and employees of all faiths. Once the candidates were selected, the group completed 14 weeks of extensive classroom training that covered subjects such as - Grief: Coping with Loss, Listening Skills, Prayer, The Pastoral Visit, Boundaries, and Pastoral Identify. The class is now in their practicum phase of the program and will be commissioned in July.

Father Peter Getz, pastor at the Holy Trinity Episcopal church in Heath, worked with Bobbie Walker, the coordinator of pastoral care at LPMC, to bring the certified Community of Hope training program to the hospital. Father Getz says, “Although the class was small, it was an exceptionally good group to inaugurate this vital program. They have set the bar high for the succeeding classes and each successive class will simply make the pastoral care program at LPMC stronger year by year. We are building people for the future.”

Lay pastoral care chaplains are part of the hospital’s “care team” who focus on the spiritual part of the healing process. Father Getz and Bobbie both agree that the chaplains are trained to give pastoral care to all persons in our hospital without regard to their religious affiliation. When you are sick enough to be in the hospital you need all the prayer you can get.

The next class offering will be January, 2009. For more information about the program or the application and interview process, please contact Bobbie Walker at 972.412.3380 ext. 2269.

ABOUT LAKE POINTE MEDICAL CENTER

Lake Pointe Medical Center, a part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, is a 112-bed acute care hospital located at 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett. Over $60 million in capital has been invested in the facility since 2001, including an emergency room expansion with Fast Track services, expansion to eight surgery suites, addition of a cardiac catheterization lab, a new 14-bed intensive care unit (ICU), the addition of two 64-slice CT scanners, fully digital imaging, the addition of a Level II Neonatal Nursery, refurbishment of all patient rooms throughout the hospital and the addition of both the Lake Pointe Imaging Center and Lake Pointe Sleep Lab in Rockwall.

In August of this year, we will open Lake Pointe Medical Partners – Family Practice, in a one-story medical office building located at 1101 West Interstate 30 in Royse City. In addition to Family Practitioners, the building will eventually contain various specialists. In September, we will open Lake Pointe Medical Arts in Rowlett at Chiesa Road and Lakeview Parkway, a two-story, 50,000 square foot medical office building that will house a four-bed sleep lab, wound care center, cancer treatment center and additional medical office space to accommodate another Lake Pointe Medical Partners – Family Practice office and other physicians.

Services inside the hospital are expanding as well. With the June, 2007 addition of the new 14-bed ICU, the Hospital has continued the development of higher acuity services at Lake Pointe. We have already begun performing some of these services, including vascular interventions in the cath lab, thoracic surgery and electrophysiology. The new neonatology group continues to expand the capabilities of our Level II Neonatal Nursery, providing care to babies delivered as early as 28 weeks. The hospital recently added a pediatric hospitalist to its medical staff, who, coupled with the neonatologists, has broadened our ability to provide quality care specific to the needs of patients ages zero to seventeen.

“I want to personally invite you to the Hospital for our 20th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, July 21st to help us celebrate 20 years of caring for our community. Lake Pointe is dedicated to providing full-service healthcare “All Right Here” so you should not have to leave the community for your healthcare needs,” said Carolyn Jackson, chief executive officer. “Please join us as we celebrate the wonderful employees and physicians who have delivered high quality health care services at Lake Pointe since 1987 and see for yourself our commitment to be a convenient, reliable and valued part of this community.”

ABOUT LAKE POINTE MEDICAL CENTER

Lake Pointe Medical Center, a part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, is a 112-bed acute care hospital located at 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett.
Rowlett, TX – May 21, 2007 – “Extraordinary people, extraordinary service” is the theme being used by Lake Pointe Medical Center during the 34th annual National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 20-26. The week-long celebration pays tribute to the exceptional service provided to countless patients every day by EMS workers in their community, often under incredibly challenging circumstances. This national event brings together local communities, medical personnel and hospitals to not only encourage safety, but also to honor the dedication of thousands of people who, as first responders to medical emergencies, dedicate their lives to providing critical, lifesaving services in their communities.

In 2004, there were more than 110 million visits made to emergency departments across the country, and more than 16 million of those patients arrived by ambulance. EMS providers respond to calls for assistance and medical care outside of a hospital or medical office setting, including medical emergencies such as heart attack, stroke and drug overdose, in addition to providing both basic and advanced medical care at the scene of an emergency and en route to a hospital.

“The emergency department is the backbone of our hospital and an essential part of the community,” said Carolyn Jackson, CEO. “Residents rely on the EMS system and its trained professionals to quickly arrive, assess, treat and transport them safely to the closest ED. I want to thank all of the EMS workers who have made it their life’s work to care for us during our most difficult times.”

“The EMS system is so much more than an ambulance service,” said Glenda Cox, Director of the Clinical Services. “These individuals have incredible heart and compassion, and we’re proud to take this opportunity to show them how much we appreciate their dedication. They truly are part of the Lake Pointe Medical Center team.”

National EMS Week is organized and promoted annually by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).

ABOUT LAKE POINTE MEDICAL CENTER

Lake Pointe Medical Center, part of Tenet Texas, is a 99-bed acute care hospital located at 6800 Scenic Drive in Rowlett.
