ROWLETT, TX (February 1, 2011) – Lake Pointe Medical Center has been designated a Level IV Trauma Facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services.  Level IV designation indicates that Lake Pointe Medical Center is staffed by physicians and health care professionals with advanced trauma training.  Level IV Trauma centers provide care for patients who have experienced injuries resulting from automobile accidents and patients who have significant cardiac, medical or surgical emergencies.

“This designation reflects our commitment of caring for our community and providing the services necessary to help save lives in an emergency situation,” explains J. Eric Evans, CEO of the Lake Pointe Health Network.  “Add this designation to our recent Primary Stroke Center Certification, and Lake Pointe is continuing to grow the level of care necessary to enhance the quality of life in our community.”

Trauma is any life-threatening occurrence, either accidental or intentional, that results in injuries.  The leading causes of trauma are motor vehicle accidents, falls and firearms.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, trauma is the leading cause of death among Americans under 44 years of age.  The top five causes of traumatic injury in Texas are transportation, falls, all other, assaults, burns/fires and struck by/against.

“It takes a special group of professionals to meet the demands of a busy emergency department such as ours,” states Larry Dencklau, DO, Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Lake Pointe Medical Center.  “It is the extraordinary dedication and teamwork of our emergency department physicians and staff that help ensure our advanced trauma level status is possible.”

Lake Pointe Medical Center participates in the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council, the Texas Statewide Trauma System, and works closely with our local EMS providers.  “We are committed to continually analyzing our physician and staff’s performance and training to ensure we remain up-to-date with the latest trauma care standards,” explains Jackie Cox, Director of the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Center at Lake Pointe Medical Center.  “One of our greatest strengths is our people.  And our recent survey recognized that as a particular strength of our facility.”

“Rockwall County is fortunate to have access to Lake Pointe Medical Center’s expanding capabilities.  It is extremely advantageous to our patients to have advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities in our local community,” explains Martin Ramirez, L.P. – Paramedic Supervisor/FTO, Rockwall County EMS.  “We are proud to be a part of Lake Pointe Medical Center’s continuing effort to enhance the quality of life for our residents.”

“We are proud of our staff members who have worked diligently to ensure we earned the Level IV Trauma Designation,” explains Jackie Clifton, Trauma Coordinator Emergency Services at Lake Pointe Medical Center.  “We remain focused on educating our community in the prevention of traumatic injury.  But when the need arises, we are pleased that we can offer this potentially life-saving service to our community.”
