Lake Pointe Medical Center Adds Neonatal Nursery Services
Lake Pointe Medical Center took a major step in the continued development of women and children services with the recent addition of Neonatal Nursery care. This expanded level of care includes neonatologists and specially-trained nurses on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to tend to premature babies — those born before 36 weeks of gestation — and other infants who may need more intensive treatment.
The doctors and nurses who work in the Neonatal Nursery specialize in caring for sick newborns and the illnesses that afflict them. Once an infant enters the Neonatal Nursery, he/she will receive care tailored to his or her specific needs. Advanced equipment such as incubators and ventilators are available in the Nursery for premature infants and their special needs.
“In the past, we have had to transfer those deliveries to other hospitals, but now we can be able to keep them here in our community,” said Vincent Iannelli, M.D., Chairman of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Department at Lake Pointe. “This new Level of Nursery service helps make obstetrics and newborn care much more convenient for families in our region”, said Dr. Iannelli.
The Neonatal nursery at Lake Pointe is under the direction of Dawn Brown, RN and is staffed by Pediatrix, one of the nation’s largest physician group practices providing newborn specialty care. As a national company, Pediatrix has built a large database of neonatal patient outcomes and uses this data as an evidence-based strategy to identify best clinical processes and implements them through clinical quality programs.
According to John Harris, Chief Executive Officer at Lake Pointe Medical Center, “Our development strategy at Lake Pointe is to continue to expand our scope of services and facilities as appropriate to meet the growing needs of the residents in our area. We also strive to provide our services in a customer service-oriented manner. The addition of Neonatal Nursery care is one more step in this direction.”
